i just need someone to believe in me

Civic artwork. Unrealised proposal in partnership with JCDecaux.

A single handwritten sentence placed unbranded on pedestrian-facing digital billboards across Auckland. No logos, no explanation, no call-to-action. Just a vulnerable statement occupying the city's most confident commercial medium.

Following the billboard, 25 aluminium artefacts, fabricated to signage standard, are quietly placed in the surrounding streets. They are physical footnotes to the digital statement, meant to be found and kept. Removal is not vandalism. It is completion.

No hunt is announced. Discovery happens through attention, not instruction. Each artefact carries a QR code linking to a claim page on Patronage, where the finder receives a certificate of authenticity, a numbered edition, and the option to pin where they found it. Social circulation follows naturally as people share the moment they found one.

The project operates as a consortium: JCDecaux provides the screen, a fabrication partner produces the artefacts, I design the system and placement logic, and the public completes the work. No partner appears on the billboard. The sentence asks for belief. Finding and keeping becomes the response.
